Candy.ai Review: Great Pictures, Thin Memory, Real Token Bills

The short version

Candy.ai is a visual-first AI girlfriend platform. The images are the reason people sign up, and the images are the reason most of them stay. Chat is unlimited once you pay, but every picture, every video clip, every voice minute and every custom character runs on tokens, and the monthly allowance is small.

We rate Candy.ai 9.8 out of 10. That number is carried almost entirely by the visuals: image generation scores 10, realism 10 and customization 10. Memory sits at 7.2 and privacy at 7.2, and neither is a rounding error.

Here is the split in one line: buy Candy.ai for the pictures, not for a companion who remembers what you told her last week.

What Candy.ai actually is

Candy.ai is run by EverAI Limited, a company registered in Malta at 56 Central Business Centre, Santa Venera. It launched in 2023 and has grown into one of the larger AI companion sites on the web. You get a catalogue of premade characters (girlfriends, boyfriends, anime styles), a builder for making your own, and a chat interface wrapped around image, video and voice generation.

The company has claimed 50 million+ users. Candy publishes no verifiable user count, so treat that figure as marketing until someone shows the receipts.

It is an 18+ platform with no native iOS or Android app. Everything runs in the browser, and you can install it to your home screen as a PWA. The interface is available in 13 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese (BR), Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Japanese and Polish.

Character creation

The "Create My AI" builder is deeper than most. You set ethnicity, age, body, hair, personality, voice and hobbies, and one 2026 review counted 47 adjustable parameters. That is a lot of sliders, and it shows in the output: characters look like the same person across generations rather than a new face every time you hit generate.

A custom character costs about 10 tokens. Free accounts can make exactly one.

Beyond the builder there are 100+ premade characters, and the catalogue covers male companions and anime styles alongside the standard realistic girls. If you want a specific look and a specific personality, Candy gives you more control than most rivals at this price.

Image generation

This is the product. Candy's photorealistic images are among the best in the AI companion niche, and face consistency is the detail reviewers keep coming back to. You are not getting a slightly different woman in every picture.

HD images are for Premium subscribers, and 18+ image generation needs a paid plan. Free users get one image and no access to adult media.

One unverified vendor-adjacent claim floating around says image errors dropped 70% by January 2026. We cannot confirm that. What we can confirm is what testers reported in September 2026: roughly 4 tokens per image. Older reviews put it at 1 to 3. Either way, do the math before you subscribe.

Live Action and video

Candy converts your still images into short video clips. A basic image-to-video conversion costs about 12 tokens, per testers.

There is also Live Action mode, reportedly launched in February 2026, with clips up to 120 seconds and Automatic Story and Scenario modes. Live Action burns tokens roughly three times faster than images, and it is limited to selected characters. Candy Shorts unlock with tokens as well.

Two limits worth knowing. There is no text-to-video from scratch, so you always start from an image. And free accounts get no video at all. Video scores 9.2: good, not the main event.

Voice features

Voice messages come with Premium. Voice calls are in beta and cost roughly 3 tokens per minute. The voice quality is serviceable and the calls work, but this is not where Candy leads the market. Voice scores 8.2.

If voice and long-term memory are your priorities, Secrets AI is the stronger pick, and we say so further down.

Chat and roleplay

Text chat is unlimited for subscribers, with SFW and NSFW modes. Testers measured average response times of 1 to 1.5 seconds per message, which is fast enough that the app does not feel like it is stalling.

Roleplay scenarios exist, and the characters will follow a scene. The problem is what happens after the scene ends.

Conversation and memory: the weak spot

Conversation quality improved between 2025 and 2026, but it still trails Replika in depth. Characters tend to default to agreement. Ask for pushback, a real opinion or some emotional friction, and you often get a nod instead.

Memory is worse. Several testers report storylines resetting after 48 to 72 hours, and long-term conversational memory weakening after 7 to 10 days. If you build a slow-burn story over two weeks, expect to rebuild it.

Premium Plus adds 20 memory slots, which helps. It does not fix the underlying problem. And note this: using Reset or Delete Chat clears that chat's memory too. Reset is not a soft undo.

Pricing and tokens

Here is the headline table. Prices may show in euros in Europe.

PlanPrice per monthBilledTokens per month
Free$0n/aNone (5 messages, 1 character, 1 image)
Premium monthly$13.99$13.99 every month100
Premium 3 months$8.99$26.97 every 3 months100
Premium 12 months$3.99$47.88 per year100
Premium PlusNot published (shown at checkout)varies330

The annual plan is the famous number: $3.99 a month, billed $47.88 a year. Candy advertises it as up to 70% off the monthly price. That is a genuine discount, and it is the reason people click.

Now the part the landing page does not lead with. Premium includes 100 tokens a month. Here is what those tokens buy:

ItemToken cost
Imageabout 4 (older reviews: 1 to 3)
Image-to-video clipabout 12
Voice callabout 3 per minute
Custom character10
Private content packs100 to 400

So 100 tokens is roughly 25 images a month, or eight short videos, or about half of one private content pack. A single 120-second Live Action scene at triple the image rate eats a serious chunk of the month.

Top-up packs are reported from $9.99 for 100 tokens up to $299.99 for 3,750. Reviewers say users commonly add $15 to $40 a month on top-ups. Realistic active spend lands at $25 to $60 a month. Media-heavy users report $80.

Premium Plus adds 330 tokens monthly, user personas, chat clones, early access to characters and bonus top-up tokens. The price only appears at checkout, which tells you something about how they want you to find it.

One more thing: if you cancel, unused tokens expire at the end of the billing period. They are not refunded. Yearly subscribers get 100 tokens each month rather than the whole year up front.

We have seen published prices that conflict with some reviews quoting $12.99/month Premium and $5.99/month annual at $69.99/year. Go by what the site shows you at checkout.

The free version is barely a version

Free gets you 5 messages total, one custom character and one image. No tokens. No 18+ media. No video.

Five messages is not enough to judge conversation quality, memory or anything else that matters. You are effectively buying blind. That is a real problem for a platform whose biggest weakness only shows up after a few days of chatting.

Privacy and safety

EverAI Limited is the data controller, and as a Maltese company it operates under GDPR. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+), passwords are stored encrypted, and charges appear as "EverAI" on your statement rather than Candy.ai.

What it does not have: end-to-end encryption. Chats are stored on servers. Per the privacy notice, prompts and outputs may be aggregated, anonymized or de-identified and used to train and develop AI and moderation models, including dataset preparation with human review. There is no described opt-out. Message content may be shared with third-party LLM providers, hosts and moderation vendors.

Retention: account data is kept up to 3 years after last activity (possibly shortened to 1 year) or until you request deletion. Log files go after 30 days. You can delete your account in Settings > Danger Zone.

The age gate is self-declared 18+, with third-party age estimation or ID verification in some locations. The content policy bans anything involving or resembling minors, and known CSAM is reported to NCMEC.

On payments, Candy accepts Visa, Mastercard, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer via Volt and Pix, and crypto (BTC, ETH, USDC, LTC and others). Crypto payments are non-refundable.

One credibility note: Candy's Trustpilot profile was removed for guideline violations after scoring around 3.8 out of 5. Make of that what you will.

Refunds and cancellation

Read this before you pay.

  • Subscription refunds must be requested within 24 hours of payment.
  • Refunds are refused if you have used more than 20 tokens.
  • Token-pack refunds only within 24 hours and only if the tokens are unused.
  • Card payments only. Crypto cannot be refunded.
  • No refunds for user-side technical issues, moderation actions or removed content.
  • EU/UK users have a 14-day withdrawal right, refunded minus a prorated amount for what was consumed.

Twenty tokens is about five images. If you subscribe, generate a handful of pictures and change your mind, you are probably outside the window already.

Cancellation is easier: My Profile > Settings > Unsubscribe, and you keep access until the period ends. Deleting your account before the renewal date also cancels, per the help center.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Photorealistic images with consistent faces, among the best in the niche.
  • Cheap entry on the annual plan: $3.99/month, billed $47.88.
  • Image-to-video, voice notes, beta voice calls and Live Action scenes in one place.
  • A detailed builder with 47 adjustable parameters, covering girls, guys and anime.
  • Payment flexibility: card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer and crypto.
  • Discreet "EverAI" billing descriptor.
  • 13 interface languages and 24/7 Zendesk support.

What does not

  • Only 100 tokens a month on Premium, so heavy users pay $25 to $80 in total.
  • Memory resets after 48 to 72 hours, per testers.
  • A 24-hour refund window and a 20-token cap.
  • Five free messages means no real test before paying.
  • No native app.
  • Chats may train models, and data sticks around up to 3 years.

Is it legitimate?

Yes. Candy.ai is a real product from a registered Maltese company with published terms, a privacy notice and a help center. The billing descriptor is real, the refund policy is written down, and support answers.

The negatives are structural, not signs of a scam. Tokens cost more than the headline price suggests. Memory is weak. The free tier is a formality. Refunds are tight. The 50 million user claim and the 70% error-drop claim are unverified.

One safety note: avoid unofficial Candy AI APKs and mod files. The official platform is browser-based. Anything offering an Android app download is not from EverAI.

One caveat about what this is

An AI companion is entertainment. It is not a substitute for professional mental health help, and it is not a substitute for real relationships. Candy's characters default to agreement, which feels good for a while and then does not. If you are using it because you are lonely in a way that worries you, talk to a person.

Who should pay for Candy.ai

Buy it if you want photorealistic NSFW images and short video clips of a consistent character, you are comfortable managing a token budget, and you treat the chat as a wrapper around the visuals.

Skip it if you want a companion who remembers a two-week storyline, you need a native phone app, you want to test before paying, or you are not prepared to spend more than $3.99.

How it compares

PlatformBest forPrice fromCredits
Candy.aiPhotorealistic images and videos$3.99/month (yearly)100 tokens/month
Secrets AILong-term memory and voice calls$9.17/month (yearly)8,000 Moments/month
OurDream AILots of images and video for the money$9.99/month (yearly)1,000 dreamcoins/month

Secrets AI charges $19.99 monthly or $109.99 yearly for Premium, with an Ultimate tier at $39.99. Its free tier cannot generate media, and the best features sit behind Ultimate. But the memory and voice work is the point, and it shows.

OurDream AI is $9.99/month on the yearly plan with unlimited chat and 1,000 dreamcoins a month, roughly 200 images. One caveat: media gets blurred if your subscription lapses, and long storylines can fade.

Nomi AI sits at $15.99 monthly or $8.33 monthly billed yearly per its App Store listing, and it ships a native app. Candy does not.

Final verdict

Candy.ai is legit, polished and genuinely best-in-niche at image generation. Live Action video is a real differentiator, and the annual plan at $3.99/month is cheap enough to try without much risk, provided you read the refund rules first.

The token system is where the $3.99 story falls apart. Active users spend $25 or more. Memory is weak enough that long-running roleplay does not survive a week. The free tier tells you nothing.

Start with one month, not twelve. Watch your token spend for the first two weeks. Keep your identity protected. And if what you actually want is a companion who remembers, go to Secrets AI instead.
