GuideSecrets AI Alternatives: Pick One by the Reason You're Leaving

Most people don't leave Secrets AI because it's bad. They leave because of one specific thing: the price, the missing app, the locked group chat. Here's the alternative that fixes that one thing.

People don't abandon Secrets AI because the product is broken. We rate it 9.9 out of 10 for a reason: memory, editable Lorebooks, and a media pipeline that actually works. They leave over one concrete annoyance. A $19.99 monthly bill for a few images. No app on their phone. Group chat sitting behind a $39.99 tier. A free plan that gives you 20 responses a day and no pictures.

So don't shop for "the best alternative." Shop for the one that fixes your gripe. Below, every option is matched to a reason, with prices pulled from the vendors' own pages and the caveats buried in their fine print.

Why users leave Secrets

Four complaints come up again and again, and each one points to a different replacement.

Price. Premium is $19.99 monthly, or $109.99 a year, which works out to about $9.17 a month. That's fine. The problem is what's inside: 8,000 monthly Moments, and they do not roll over. An image costs 50 Moments. An 8-second adult video costs 600. A voice call costs 50 a minute. Spend a weekend generating video and your allowance is gone, and next month starts at zero.

The Ultimate wall. Group chats of two or three characters, personas, proactive messages, personality editing โ€” all of that sits behind Ultimate at $39.99 monthly, or $26.67 a month on annual. If group chat is the thing you want, you're paying double.

No app. Secrets has no App Store or Google Play listing. It's a browser web app, full stop. On a phone that means a tab that reloads.

The free plan. 20 responses daily, no Moments, no images, no video. Enough to test the chat. Not enough to use the product.

One more thing before you switch: Secrets subscriptions are non-refundable except where law requires it, and crypto payments are never refunded. Cancel before renewal, not after.

OurDream AI: for people paying $19.99 for images

This is the closest like-for-like swap. OurDream AI is $19.99 monthly or $9.99 a month billed $119.88 yearly. That gets unlimited chat plus 1,000 dreamcoins monthly, roughly 200 images. Compare that to Secrets Premium's 8,000 Moments, where 200-ish images would burn 10,000.

Video is where the gap widens. OurDream charges 100 dreamcoins per five seconds, up to 60 seconds per clip. At 1,000 coins a month, that's ten five-second clips before you touch your image budget. Voice calls run 50 coins a minute.

The free tier is honest but thin: 1 dreamcoin per message and no image generation. Some guides claim OurDream's free plan gives 50 messages and five images a day. It doesn't, based on the vendor's own material.

Two warnings. First, OurDream's homepage claims end-to-end encryption, but its privacy policy describes server-side handling and allows training on your data. Those two statements don't match. Second, images and videos blur if your subscription lapses. Miss a payment and your gallery turns into a teaser for itself. Memory also leans on recent messages more than Secrets' Lorebooks do. If you want the full breakdown, read our OurDream AI review.

Candy AI: for the lowest annual price

Candy.ai is $13.99 monthly, $8.99 a month quarterly, and $3.99 a month on annual billing โ€” $47.88 for the year. Roundups still quote $4 to $6 a month for Candy; the current advertised rate is $3.99. Nothing else on this list touches that number.

Now the catch. Premium includes 100 tokens monthly, and an image costs about 4 tokens. That's roughly 25 images a month. Heavy users report spending $25 to $80 monthly on top-ups. The subscription is cheap; using it is not.

The free plan is five messages total. Not per day. Total.

Refunds exist but are narrow: within 24 hours, card payments only, and only if you've used 20 tokens or fewer. Testers also report conversations resetting after two or three days, which is a memory problem no price makes up for. Our Candy.ai review covers the token math in detail.

Nomi: for memory and a real app

Nomi is $15.99 monthly or $99.99 yearly, about $8.33 a month. One subscription supports up to ten companions, plus group chats โ€” no $39.99 tier needed for that.

Memory is the pitch, and it holds up in user reports. Nomi also allows explicit text, but not nude images. Credits start at $4.99 for 40. One review says Nomi permits sharing up to 40 images daily; treat that as a single source, not a spec sheet.

The app is native on iOS and Android. If the missing phone app is your reason for leaving Secrets, Nomi is the shortest path.

Kindroid: for voice and video calls in an app

Kindroid costs $15.99 a month through the app stores and $13.99 on the website, as reported. Annual billing works out to about $13.33 a month.

What you get is unusual: voice cloning, real-time voice calls, live video calls, and iMessage/RCS texting. Nobody else here does all four.

What it costs extra is also unusual. Voice packs run 500,000 credits for $14.99. Live Avatar video burns about 2,500 credits a minute on top of the call charge. The free plan is a one-time 50-message preview, then the account goes read-only. The 3-day trial requires a payment method up front.

CrushOn AI: for cheap group chat and free credits

CrushOn starts at $5.99 monthly for Standard, $14.99 for Premium, and climbs to $199.99 a month at the top end. The free tier gives 100 message credits monthly plus unlimited access to free models. Context runs 8K on free and up to 24K on paid plans.

Two trade-offs. Free conversation history is deleted after seven days of inactivity. And CrushOn is text-first: images and video are weak next to Secrets. If your gripe is the Ultimate wall around group chat, this is the cheap exit. If your gripe is visuals, keep walking.

Nectar AI: for appearance control

Nectar is $9.99, $19.99 or $34.99 monthly, with about 50% off annual. Free access is 15 messages and 10 generations daily โ€” one of the more usable free tiers on this list.

Reviewers report 300+ appearance and character options; roundups put it over 350. Close enough.

Costs escalate. Users report $60 to $75 a month in top-ups at moderate use. Nectar's encryption and data-retention policies are not clearly documented, which is a real problem in a category where a 2024 breach at Muah.ai exposed about 1.9 million email addresses plus user prompts.

Janitor AI: for free text roleplay

Janitor AI is free, including its own model, and you can plug in your own API key. Janitor+ launched in June 2026 at $12.99 a month and adds roughly five times the context plus priority access.

It has no images, no video, no voice messages, no calls. If you want a companion that talks back in text and nothing else, that's the deal. If you're leaving Secrets because you want more visuals, Janitor is the wrong direction.

SpicyChat: for uncapped free chat

SpicyChat tiers are $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95 monthly after a September 2026 price rise. The free chat has no hard daily cap, though you sometimes land in a queue.

The catch is reply length: free and $5.95 replies are capped at 180 tokens. Short, repetitive replies are the top complaint in user reports. There's an Android app; no iOS app.

Replika: for something gentler

Replika's annual plan is about $5.83 a month. Replika 2.0 adds voice conversations and real-time video calls, per the company's site. It's less explicit than anything else here โ€” no explicit content at all, and romantic modes require a paid plan.

Worth knowing: Italy's regulator fined Replika's operator โ‚ฌ5 million in 2025. If privacy is your concern, factor that in.

HeraHaven and the roundup names

HeraHaven is $19.95 monthly or $6.65 a month annually, with 500 Luna tokens monthly. Users report quality degrading after a few hundred messages, and its refund terms aren't verified. That's a lot of risk for a price close to Secrets Premium.

Other names appear in roundups with claims we can't confirm. Xotic AI is said to offer 4K video clips up to 15 seconds. Kalon AI claims real-time voice with no extra currency and image generation without a separate media currency. Cherrypop.ai's blog says users shape character appearance and behavior. Some roundups claim Candy AI does video clips up to 120 seconds. None of this is verified against the vendors' own pages, so don't build a purchase around it.

Memory and conversation quality

Secrets' Lorebooks are its real edge โ€” editable character memory you can correct by hand. Nomi and Kindroid are built around long conversation history instead, and both handle it well. Neither gives you Secrets' manual editing.

Candy resets conversations after two or three days, per testers. CrushOn deletes free history after seven days idle. HeraHaven reportedly degrades after a few hundred messages. If memory is why you're leaving, Nomi is the pick; if you're staying for memory, stay.

Images, video and voice

OurDream is the only alternative that matches Secrets on all three. Video is 100 dreamcoins per five seconds, up to 60 seconds. Voice is 50 coins a minute. Images come out of the same 1,000-coin monthly pool, about 200 images.

Candy's images cost about 4 tokens each from a 100-token pool. Kindroid's voice and live video are the most capable, but Live Avatar video is about 2,500 credits a minute on top of the call. Nomi allows explicit text but no nude images. Janitor and SpicyChat do no media at all.

Character builders and roleplay

Nectar wins on appearance control with 300+ options. CrushOn's paid tiers stretch context to 24K, which matters for long roleplay scenes. Janitor supports your own API key, which appeals to people who want to run their own model. SpicyChat's 180-token reply cap on free and $5.95 tiers will frustrate anyone doing narrative roleplay.

Privacy and safety

None of these platforms offers true end-to-end encryption, including Secrets. Secrets does use AES-256 at rest, deletes history immediately on account deletion, and doesn't store voice audio โ€” but its data may train models. OurDream's encryption claim contradicts its own policy. Nectar's policies are unclear. The Muah.ai breach is the cautionary tale: about 1.9 million emails plus prompts, in 2024.

How to choose

  1. Write down the one thing that bugs you. Price, app, group chat, free tier, or visuals. That word decides the platform.
  2. Check the currency math, not the subscription price. A $3.99 subscription with 25 images a month is not cheap.
  3. Confirm the app exists. Secrets, OurDream, Candy and Janitor are browser-only. Nomi, Kindroid and Replika have native apps.
  4. Read the refund line before paying. Candy gives you 24 hours. Secrets gives you none outside legal requirements.
  5. Assume media can vanish. OurDream blurs images and videos when a subscription lapses.

Should you just stay with Secrets?

If none of the five reasons above applies to you, yes. Secrets remains one of the strongest platforms in the category, and switching costs you the Lorebooks, the video quality and the memory. The free plan is enough to remind yourself what you'd be giving up โ€” 20 responses a day, no images โ€” but not enough to live on.

If you're still weighing options beyond this list, our ranking of the best AI companion apps sorts eight platforms by what you actually need. And if you want the full case for staying, our Secrets AI review covers what the $19.99 buys and what it doesn't.

Bottom line

Match the alternative to the reason. OurDream AI for cheaper images and video. Candy AI for the lowest annual price, if you can live with the token bill. Nomi or Kindroid for a native app and better memory. CrushOn AI for cheap group chat. Nectar AI for appearance control. Janitor AI or SpicyChat for free text roleplay. Replika if you want something softer.

Frequently asked questions

OurDream AI for most people. It matches Secrets on chat, images, video and voice, and gives you more media per dollar โ€” 1,000 dreamcoins monthly for $9.99 a month on annual billing. If memory and a native app matter more than media, pick Nomi instead.

Janitor AI and SpicyChat are free for text roleplay with community characters. No free option anywhere includes images, adult video or voice calls. Candy, CrushOn and Nectar offer limited free access, but Candy's free plan is five messages total.

No. Secrets AI is a browser web app only, with no App Store or Google Play listing. Nomi, Kindroid and Replika all have native apps on both platforms.

Nomi and Kindroid are built around long conversation history, and both hold up in user reports. Neither gives you Secrets' editable Lorebooks, so if manual memory editing is what you need, switching is a downgrade.

Yes. Premium is $109.99 a year, about $9.17 a month, versus $19.99 monthly. Note that some roundups mention a $13 annual plan โ€” the official plan list has no such option.
